My art style has been undergoing some drastic changes recently. I’ve always had a natural inclination toward cartoon art and I seem to be swaying in this direction more and more of late.
I’ve yet to experiment with the digital process but using a trusty old pencil has been a breath of fresh air.
I’ve got some cool new projects come my way which lend themselves to cartoon art so check back soon to see the results!
Without change something sleeps inside us, and seldom awakens. The sleeper must awaken.

I’ve finally moved into my new studio space - a nicely converted out-building at the end of my garden. Here’s my work station. Expect more pictures when I’m completely moved in, I have a lot of junk!
Blue Tit on Flickr.
Via Flickr:
I haven’t drawn any animals for some time, so here’s a personal piece. One of my favourite garden birds the Blue Tit.
I wanted a bird whose colours would create contrast against a warm morning sunrise. I may do a series of these in the future so check back soon.

I boldly went back and reworked this piece from last year.
Much happier with the line quality and colours now.
This illustration will feature in an illustration book this Spring and is available to buy as a print/tee at: society6.com/mattchinn
Karl Pilkington in Space - WIP - Roughs on Flickr.
Via Flickr:
I’m loving ‘An Idiot Abroad’ right now, so decided to sketch up personal piece based on everyone’s favourite spherical-headed explorer - Karl Dilkington… sorry Pilkington.
I’m aiming to get the inkwork finalised soon, maybe a few more bananas.

It’s been a busy month but here’s my roughs for my latest piece of the electro rapper, socialite and egg lady, Uffie. I revisited my Justice piece and thought it might be cool to produce a series of Ed Banger illustrations using a more graphic treatment. I’m enjoying experimenting with combining sharp shapes with organic/flowing art elements at the moment. A SebastiAn illustration is on the cards so check back later to see how it turns out.
I haven’t shown any WIP/roughs here yet so here’s the original loose pencil sketch:

I wasn’t entirely sure where this was going at first so decided to ink the whole sketch so I had the entire figure to play with later:
